DMM Wales - there is no other (?)     On: 2007-09-25

Nah, thats not true. CMI, Kong, Petzl - its all good. But by and large I have more DMM clips and biners than any other. This little biner is so light its kind of hard to believe it will support 225 lbs X 24, or whatever the Kn spec is. And its all Golden - gotta love it.
You cant go wrong with DM gear. The quality fit and finish is second to none. Theyre marvels of engineering and aesthetic prowess.

Just dont torque it against anything. Its not steel. Im a tree climber, and I do a lot of false crotches with slings, and often I find that what seems like a good rig up at the top becomes risky when I start to descend. Because as the angles change, the biners may become sandwiched against the tree. These little alu-min-i-um (as the Aussies say) biners are tres cool, but make sure you dont stress them the wrong way. These things are built the way a structural engineer once told me they build bridges. He said "Anybody can build a bridge to withstand a given load. The idea is to build a bridge that will just withstand that load." So while the thing may seem unbelievably strong for use as directed, I have grave doubts about how forgiving it is if you do something stupid. So thats why a lot of tree climbers still use only steel.

But that said, I love this thing. And I have never broken one, by the way. Guess thats why Im here to type this up.
