More Information

Affordable, Buoyant, but a Little Uncomfortable     On: 2008-05-24

The Good:

The two adjustable straps enable the Stearns Competitor Series Vest to conform to your body; coupled with the third strap, I have no fear that, in a rough current, Id lose the jacket.

The numerous pockets offer more-than-sufficient storage options. These pockets protect against light mist and occasional splashes. However, none of the pockets are waterproof, so be sure to place sensitive items in a waterproof bag.

The Bad:

The fleece around the collar actually may irritate your neck. When paddling a kayak, the jacket shifts with each left-to-right-to-left paddle motion. As a result, the fleece rubs my neck quite a bit. While at first it does not cause any discomfort, after a few hours, it does. You should consider the collar feature and whether you spend extended time on the water before you purchase this vest.

The jacket, like most life jackets, has a tendency to ride up my torso. However, this is common to most life jackets because they fit above the waist and have no straps, etc. to keep them at a certain level. Youll likely have to readjust it on your body when wearing it, especially if youre on a boat seat that has back support.
