These yak grips are "THE BOMB". They are awesome on long trips providing comfort for your hands. The only aggravating part was getting them on the paddle. They are worth every penny.
Absolutely AWESOME Product!!!!     On: 2008-10-24

Everyone is either going to love these...or not...I LOVE them. Im an endurance paddler and found these just before my third 100 mile kayak race. My hands WERE (please note past tense!) a moonscape of callouses and blisters. I have never had my hands feel as good as they did at the end of the race!!! Now, other parts of my body still hurt like heck...but the hands were incredibly good. They are worth trying out if you do any kind of distance paddling. Yes, they will move on you, but like someone else pointed out, it only takes a second to readjust them. And for me the long distance comfort way outweighs that slight inconvenience. Ive now bought pairs for all my and my husbands paddles and have given several sets to friends.

The idea is good but the left keeps slipping. Hard to get on the right side.
Didn't work for me...     On: 2008-09-10

I was not pleased with the Yakgrips. Im a "wet" paddler -- because of that, the grips kept moving on the paddle shaft. Messed up my stroke and required frequent stops to move them back into position. Also, the seam on the grip, combined with being wet, seemed to contribute to blistering. I do not recommend them.
What a relief!     On: 2008-07-15

Im relatively new to kayaking and I was getting blisters which made paddling very painful. I was starting to develop calluses and thought I would have to resort to wearing gloves. Im glad I found these Yakgrips instead. They were a terrific solution. They provided just the right amount of cushioning. I have small hands and they didnt increase the size of the grip too much for me.

They were, however, very difficult to get onto the paddles, but once in place they stayed where I put them.
Yak grips     On: 2008-05-09

Yak grips for Kayak paddles work great. The provide a non slip surface while paddling and prevent blisters. They install much easier with two persons, one to pour a little water between the grip and the paddle while the second slides it into position!
some flaws     On: 2007-08-03

These do provide better gripping than just a smooth kayak shaft, but they have two drawbacks. First, these are thick and they make the gripping area a lot wider across than I prefer. Secondly, they move around with use - paddling some rough white water I was constantly re-adjusting them, as they kept sliding up and down the shaft. They are very hard to move when trying to re-adjust them, so it must be the combination of getting splashed while having force applied which makes them slide around.
No more calluses     On: 2007-07-16

Kayaking for hours at a time left calluses on my hands which caused a slightly different grip on the paddle. After being advised not to wear gloves and changing my grip, the callus production was reduced. As I increased my lap durations, I noticed the calluses coming back. I decided to try the Yakgrips and was surprised how the grip change was not bothersome. They took some time to put on. Lubrication with water is key to easing their application on the paddles. During use, the grips would move slightly over time if water reached the part of the paddle where applied. This required a brief break to budge them back. I also noted, that the grips tend to retain water when wet. The water retention caused my hands to soften and gave me "raisin fingers". I would reduce this effect by wringing out the grip by squeegeeing by gripping it between my thumb and forefinger down the length of the grip. I would dry my hands on my shirt afterwards. Normal sweat did not cause this problem. Soaking of the grips occurred while going on edge with the boat and submerging the grips.

Great product.     On: 2007-05-02

You wet the inside of the grip and the paddle shaft with water and have to work them into position. Worth the effort because they stay nicely in place. They provide a positive grip wet or dry, allowing you relax your fingers with confidence and thus reduce fatigue.
nice addition to your paddle     On: 2007-01-19

These grips were ordered for my wife and she likes them very much. You may have to work them a little to get them on.
